Our incredible
dog, Brodie, made the journey to Rainbow Bridge on July 13, 2009. We are
heartbroken, but have so many wonderful memories to carry in our hearts.
Brodie was
the most brilliant, funny, and totally self-centered dog I've ever known.
He believed that he was King of All Things, and that we were all here
for his entertainment and enjoyment. He was a master at communicating,
barking the number of syllables for foods he wanted, and "talking"
in different "voices" depending on what he was trying to express.
He could tell time, and demanded his food at precisely the same time every
day. I could also tell what he was thinking by the looks he gave...joy,
anger, jealousy, annoyance, love...you name it, he showed it with his
eyes. He must have been a surgeon and an interior decorator in previous
lives. If I rearranged furniture or collectibles, he barked until I put
them back in their previous places. He tore apart his fabric toys, and
went into a complete frenzy when he saw the toy's guts.
He
was our loyal dojo dog, always present during our martial arts and tai
chi workouts. He loved my friend, Gwennie, and would wait for her visits.
He would lie next to her, wagging his tail and waiting for belly rubs
while we were doing our ab workouts and stretches, then insist on walking
her to her car. Next to Tony and me, she was his favorite person.
In his golden
years, Brodie became a totally devoted companion, following me wherever
I went.
He was my
best friend, and my heart.
I made up
a limerick for a Westie email group I belonged to many years ago. Brodie
was my inspiration :-)
There once
was a West Highland Terrier
Whose personality
couldn't be merrier.
He'd play
and he'd bark
From dawn
until dark,
Then wiggle
his cute little derrière.

Brodie
rang a bell when he wanted to go outside, or when he wanted me to
get off the phone, or when he wanted me to stop working on the computer.

Brodie smiled when
he got belly rubs and neck bites. He held his head back further
when I asked for MORE neckbites.

Brodie was
the most enthusiastic present opener we had ever seen. |

Brodie loved to watch
doggies on TV. He's shown here, "ARROOING" at a dog show
Westie. He learned to lift his leg after watching male wolves on
the Discovery Channel!

In his
youth, Brodie loved to steal. He somehow managed to steal our laundry
hamper and drag it out of the house. He was happily running around
the yard when I took this picture. There is a countless list of
things he stole, but the funniest was his attempt to steal a tall
kitchen garbage bin. The only reason he didn't succeed, was because
he was trying to force the bin sideways through the door, and it
didn't fit!

How
humiliating! |
 |
|
 |
I know I heard him...where
is he?
Brodie loved to play
games with his Dad, especially around the pool.
|
|
Being
held by Dad made the humiliation less, but can you see the annoyed
look in his eyes having to model his Valentine's Day gift from his
Aunt Phoebe?

Brodie (aka Q.C.)
always had to check the progress on our home improvement projects.
He would come into the room at regular intervals to make sure we
were doing a good job.

This is
one of my favorite pictures of Brodie. His feet were green after running
on the freshly-mowed lawn, and he couldn't wait to get into more mischief. |

I had decorated a
3-tiered wedding cake for a friend's wedding, and it was sitting
on my buffet waiting to be delivered. I heard a funny noise, and
found Brodie eating the frosting off the side of the cake. He didn't
like the gumpaste flowers, so split them out on the floor!
|
|
Brodie's
face was covered with dirt, having just been caught burying one of
his pig ears in my favorite potted plant. He thought it was funny! |

Brodie loved his
Dad, and I found them napping together many times. Tony had a wonderful
influence on Brodie, and I'm so thankful he was in his life.

This
was taken in December 2008. Brodie loved to cuddle while watching
tv, and who better to cuddle with than his Dad.

Brodie loved to talk
on the phone, especially with his Aunt Phoebe and my Mom. He listened
to them talk, then would bark and bark, telling them all about his
day. It was cute, until he started thinking that all the calls were
for him, and demanded to "talk" to every caller...not
the professional image I wanted for my home-based businesses!

Brodie enjoyed
traveling with his family. Here he is, at the river in Bullhead City,
where he went swimming with Emmi and his Dad. |
